NAC 2014 Call for Entries: Interventions

The National Art Competition (NAC) is an annual art competition organized by African Artists' Foundation (AAF) and proudly sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc.

Since its inception in 2008, NAC has sought to unite artists and society through the interpretation of crucial themes proposed in each year's call for entries, succeeding in empowering young artists and developing talent in Nigeria.

Accordingly, this year's theme 'Interventions' explores how contemporary art serves as a catalyst for positive social change, engaging artists to think about their relationship to the social, political, and cultural framework of the society that they live in.

As contemporary art is inherently an avenue for audiences to analyze and begin a dialogue about issues relevant to their present day, artists are asked to create work that will spark public discourse and make a difference in their local communities.

Whether engaging public space with site-specific interventions, or using the artwork itself as the communication agent, how can art impact society? What is the role of the artist in the twenty-first century, and what can art achieve?

Grand Prize: N2,000,000 + A solo show at AAF

Winner Outstanding Concept: N1,000,000

Winner Outstanding Production: N1,000,000

Men; Would you trend the feather tie?

Still in men's attire..

Would you trend this feather tie, in place of a real tie?

Here are some casual wears men should try to trend.

Fashionably bad boy style, The jacket worn atop a rigged jeans. Buh the socks?!

This is a soft casual look.. gentle-manly

You can only try this when you know you won't be in a 'Hot' zone.. nevertheless, I love the sweater  worn inside the gray jacket.. it's london-ly

What's up with all the roll up of the legs to the pants?

Trendy Men's Wear; And Corporate It Is..

Now ladies, you're not the only ones looking good these days, the guys are taking over! And they're trending it in a corporate way.. don't you just love them

 Cute!!

 Where are his socks?

A pop of color can give you a playful classy style..

Would you trend the gray-rose brooch on your suit attire/corporate wear? Accessorising ain't all that bad for guys. Add a style to your normal corporate look by putting up a hinch of the gray-rose brooch(as in the picture above), or something simple in color and size, nothing flashy.

Trendy Outfits to try on..

Fashion is becoming a must do these days. Different trends keep coming out. Creativity has moved from mere paper works, and can be seen in what to wear..

Unique and truly awesome!!! Isn't it? Would you rock this short leather skirt?

For a daily summer chick wear, this looks good to try..

Would you rock this outfit? The shimmer skirt Def is something to try on..

I definitely would do this gold metallic dress and clutch bag. This is so chickly classy

A Brief On Kelvin Okafor

We've been looking recently into the Nigerian Artist that has been making waves with his pencil sketches that look a whole lot like photographs. Here's a little brief about him;

http://www.kelvinokaforart.com

Background:
Mr. Kelvin Okafor  was born on November 1, 1985 in London to Nigerian parents from Ibusa, Delta State. As a child, he had always been fascinated with creativity. As a result, after his A-Levels at St Ignatius College, he went for a one year course in Foundation Art & Design at City & Guilds – London Art School. He then proceeded to Middlesex University where he bagged a B.A. Honours in Fine Art.
After many years developing his technique as a pencil artist, Kelvin Okafor was catapulted into the spotlight when the BBC and other media picked up his story after he was awarded multiple prizes in 2012-13.
Motivation:
“Progression inspires and motivates me, not just as an artist, but as a human being. Productivity makes me happy, being able to produce and create art for people to engage with. To prompt and arouse emotions, making people feel inspired and encouraged is what gives me great joy and satisfaction, and in turn, inspires me to keep creating,” said Okafor.

He was subsequently asked to join the prestigious Albemarle Gallery in Mayfair, London. His first solo show took place May 2014.
He has recently exhibited his artworks at two prestigious exhibitions in the UK this year. The Mall Galleries for the Threadneedle Prize Exhibition and National Open Art Competition with four exhibitions at: The Minerva Theatre, The Prince’s Foundation, Pallant House and The Science Museum.

About the last award:

Okafor’s painting, Adam, did not only win The Catherine Petitgas Visitors’ Choice Prize, it has been selected to represent the  National Open Art Competition at the Works on Paper/Watercolour Fair at the London Science Museum from January 31 to February 3, 2013.

More art works by Kelvin Okafor..

A Young Nigerian Artist who has taken art into another dimension, making pencil drawings non differential from an actual photograph..

Kelvin Okafor is a graduate of Fine Art, Middlesex University and is now making waves across the world with his incredible pencil drawings that looks like photographs.

Kelvin creates each piece only in black and white, using graphite pencils, charcoal, and black coloured pencil. He's exhibited at numerous major art galleries and won several national awards for his remarkable work. His work is currently on display at the The Watercolours + Works on Paper Fair at the London Science Museum, until February 3.

Kelvin writes on his blog:
'I aspire to create art as vivid as eyes could see. I want my drawings to prompt an emotional response, making viewers feel as though they are looking at a real live subject. I’ve always been creative, but fell in love with using pencils in particular.
It amazed me, that with only one shade of lead, you can create so many tones and textures, and almost create the illusion of colour. It was only when my images started to create a buzz with other Middlesex University students that I realised their impact.'

Beautiful bedroom designs

Here are some fun designs to put up, both for adults and kids. Say no to those dull and dry up bedroom designs you are used to, it's time to start something new, something spicy to both your life and your home.

This here is fun-ly mature to have..

So, so fairy tale. I love this. It's calm and soothing.

Beautiful for kids. Unlike most straight up wooden bunk beds, this can make your female child feel like a princess

This design shouldn't be limited to just kids, an adult can put something like this up... I could probably eat up this sandwich bed before I start using it *laughs*.

Warm Living Rooms

Beautiful, comfortable, warm and a bit childlike. This can serve as a nice anti-room or your private living room

If you want to go for a royalty look. This should be the look to have. It's cozy and warm.

This here is one beautiful serene.
